Due to rain forecasted we decide to spend a day in Kobas and visit Ston, a small town with an impressive fortress and a unique wall. The wall surrounded the town but also connects Ston with Mali (small) Ston on the other side of the peninsula. These two towns had to be strategically and commercially important in the old times as the wall is quite long and winds up a steep hill. The main business used to be salt prduction. The salinas are still in operation and you may buy original salt from Ston in some shops. Our host from Kobas told us that Mali Ston is also famous for its oyster farms and strawberry production.
Ston, town, fortress and the wall We climb the wall and have a magnificient view on the Ston channel. We visit Mali Ston. The walk takes us half an hour in one direction.
My waterproof sailing mate Wolfgang Mali Ston In the evening, right after we return from our trip to Ston, rain sets in. Meanwhile a Finish crew berthes next to us. Together with them we have a wonderful and talkative lunch. Niksa, our host, does his best to serve us a marvelous dinner and tells us a lot stories about his family and the local history.
