About me
updated Thu, 29th, Nov 2018
The sea, ships and especially sailing are great passion and constant in my life.
At any rate, this passion for the sea was awakened by my father, who, like his father - by the way an officer of the Ottoman navy - called a boat his own all his life and used it intensively. As a family, we spent every summer by the sea and the boat. My father sailed in his youth, later he built a motorboat himself. When this became too small for our family, he then bought a Swedish cabin boat (Draco 2000) with which we regularly drove to the Adriatic Sea. When he went to his well-deserved retirement, he bought again a larger boat from a Swedish shipyard, a used Nimbus 3001.
Papas erstes Boot The many experiences on the boats of my father have certainly shaped my love for the sea and seamanship in particular. The interest for sailing emerged relatively late, but then even more intense. Although I received a basic sailing education at school and was enthusiastic about it, I completed the Austrian sailing training for inland navigation at the age of 33 and sailing training for coastal sailing at the age of 35. Since then, various special trainings followed.
For some years now, I regularly participate in regattas with a
4.5m trimaran of the WETA class.

Professional background
My professional background is both rooted in academia and industry. After my studies at Vienna University of Technology I worked for more than 10 years as a software engineer, business process consultant and project manager for small to very large companies. In all these years I have been involved in a variety of projects along the whole lifecycle of software development and implementation. The scope of projects I have been involved included pure conceptual studies, feasibility studies, pre-software selection consultancy, business process consultancy and as well design and technical implementation of both small- and large-scale business software systems. As a founder and owner of a small software development and consultancy I have also learned what it means to turn entrepreneurial ideas into working business models.
Since 2008 I have joined Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien) as as a researcher and lecturer. In 2012 I obtained my doctoral degree (with distinction) and was appointed an Assistant Professor at Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien) - Institute of Computer Technology and later at the Institute of Management Sciences. During the last years I have worked on several research projects mainly in the field of software engineering and business process engineering. I have received an outstanding paper award for a jointly authored journal paper and have published several peer-reviewed papers in scientific conferences and journals. I currently teach courses in Operations Management, Business Process Management, Enterprise Information Systems, HCI/CSCW and Information Systems Design. Recently, my research focus turned to environmental impact modeling and analysis.
